The Hunt consists of eight, three men teams. The Hunt program is a combination of events sponsored by the One-Shot Antelope Hunt Club and the Past Shooters Club. Although the schedule for the 2014 activities has not been finalized, it will essentially be the same as in the past. Activities will start on Wednesday September 17, 2014 and conclude Saturday September 20, 2014. There is a cocktail party on Wednesday evening along with the drawing of guides for the hunters. The Past Shooters Club sponsors Thursday’s events, which include competitive shooting, Past Shooters Banquet and a live auction for the Foundation’s Water for Wildlife program. All team members are invited and encouraged to participate in these events. The activities of the 2014 Hunt begins officially at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 19th and continues through the banquet Saturday evening, September 20, 2014. The Saturday night banquet normally ends at approximately 10:00 p.m. We ask that each accepted team member understand that it is mandatory for him to participate in all of the One-Shot events held on Friday and Saturday.
The basic schedule of the Hunt begins at registration Friday morning followed by a luncheon. After the luncheon, our team members are transported to the rifle range to sight-in and to participate in some limited competitive shooting. The Friday night banquet begins the “Legend of the Hunt” and it is consummated by a blood brother ceremony conducted by the Shoshone Indian Tribe. Saturday morning the hunter’s breakfast is served at 4:30 a.m. and Hunt personnel accompany each hunter to the field. The Hunt occurs on the plains surrounding Lander on the opening day of Antelope season. A private luncheon is served for Hunters, Hunt Personnel and Past Shooters from approximately 10:00 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The “Legend of the Hunt” is completed at the mandatory Saturday night Victory Banquet.
The registration fee (currently $1,000 per team member), includes a Wyoming Hunting License, all meals, guide services and ground transportation. You must personally pay for motel accommodations and personal conveniences. Spouses and guests are welcome, and special luncheons have been set up for their participation. Greeters, guides, drivers and transportation are provided for you while you are in Lander and will assist you in staying with the Hunt schedule. All team members and spouses will stay at the Pronghorn Motel, 150 E. Main, Lander Wyoming. Reservations will be made for you and your guests.
You are responsible for providing your own firearm and ammunition.
The Past Shooters’ Club hopes that each new Shooter will become a Life Member of their organization. A representative from the Past Shooters’ Club will provide you with details.
The purpose of the Hunt is to promote the ideals of good sportsmanship and game conservation, while placing significant emphasis on comradeship, ability in the field and accuracy with a big game rifle. Teams are selected to participate on the basis of written challenges issued to the One-Shot Hunt Club Board of Directors. Eight, three person teams are selected from the challenges received.
We do not utilize a formal application. We ask that each team challenge include a biography of each team member with as much information as possible that gives us a feel for the individual team members. Each year the Board receives more challenges than we have open slots for. Therefore, the mission of your challenge is to convince us that your team should be one of the teams that we select.
We start reviewing challenges as we receive them (as early as November) and strive to have all selections finalized by March 31. We suggest that you submit your challenge as early as possible.
